The latest version of the mandatory national standard GB 18613-2020 "Motor Energy Efficiency Limits and energy efficiency levels" was released in May 2020 and officially implemented from June 1, 2021. GB 18613-2020 has listed IE5 efficiency as the highest first-level energy efficiency grade index for three-phase asynchronous motors in China.
The new national standard also stipulates that, starting from its implementation date, IE3 efficiency will become the minimum allowable energy efficiency level for three-phase asynchronous motors in China. Motors below the IE3 level are no longer permitted to be produced or sold. This change marks another improvement in the efficiency standards for small and medium-sized three-phase asynchronous motors in the country.
At the same time, the IE4 efficiency is listed as the second energy-saving evaluation index.
After the implementation of GB 18613-2020, the motor energy efficiency labels correspond to the following levels:

For GB25958-2010, the new version of the standard has improved the energy efficiency index requirements for capacitive starting, capacitive running and double-value capacitor asynchronous motors, deleted the energy efficiency index requirements for room air conditioner fan motors, and increased the energy efficiency index requirements for capacitive running motors for air conditioner fans and brushless DC motors for air conditioner fans. The requirements of 120W energy efficiency grade for single-phase and three-phase small power motor are deleted, and the technical requirements of target limit value and energy-saving evaluation value for small power motor are deleted. Why switch to the sIE3 standard?
In the industrial field, motor power consumption accounts for about 75% of industrial electricity, so improving the energy efficiency standards of industrial motors has become one of the key measures for energy conservation and emission reduction in various countries. IE3 energy efficient motor can increase energy efficiency by 4% compared to ordinary motor.
An IE3 energy-efficient motor can improve energy efficiency by approximately 4% compared to a standard motor. Although 4% may seem insignificant, consider a 7.5 kW motor that consumes around 20,000 kWh annually. With a 4% increase in efficiency, it can save about 800 kWh per year. At an electricity rate of 1 yuan per kWh, this translates to an annual saving of 800 yuan per motor.
For GB18613-2012, the new version of the standard deletes the motor target energy efficiency limit value and the motor energy saving evaluation value, improves the requirements for the energy efficiency limit value of three-phase asynchronous motors, and increases the energy efficiency level of 8-pole three-phase asynchronous motors.
The impact of the implementation of new motor energy efficiency standards
First, the impact on motor enterprises
Since June 1, 2021, motors that do not meet the IE3 energy efficiency threshold are prohibited from being manufactured, sold, or purchased. Therefore, motor enterprises should be fully prepared for the production and sale of IE3 and above energy efficiency motors from all aspects of technology, equipment, process, materials and sales. At present, the preparation work of different motor enterprises in the production of IE3 and above energy efficiency motors varies greatly: the main backbone enterprises have the ability to design and produce IE3 and even IE4 motors, but their equipment and production management are still far from all the mass production of IE3 and above energy efficiency motors; Most small and medium-sized enterprises have difficulties in designing their own IE3 energy efficiency motors, and their technology and equipment level even has difficulties in small batch production of IE3 energy efficiency motors. The market is very difficult to fully accept the sale price of more than IE2 energy efficiency of the motor, so less than a year of preparation time is very tight.

Second, the impact on the motor industry
Compared with IE2, the cost of IE3 increases by about 20%. Compared with IE3, the cost of IE4 has also increased significantly. Therefore, motor enterprises should achieve the required energy efficiency indicators under the premise of the product, from the design, process and other aspects to tap the potential to reduce costs; As far as I know, many motor companies are now implementing intelligent manufacturing, which makes motor products can achieve a high consistency, then it is necessary to improve the design level of motor products, do not leave too much design margin. In addition, the existing motor products can be better improved in terms of process (such as processing accuracy), equipment, etc.
